| LIBRARY |
The Society has a growing library of books, magazines and audio tapes, that are available to members. A large number of the books and tapes are available for postal borrowing within New Zealand. A reference library is available for research at some meetings and by members at other times by arrangement.

| MEETINGS |
|
Meetings are held periodically at which the Society's library and other resources may be available. Some of these meetings will also have a guest speaker. The meetings will be mainly in Auckland but if possible will also be held in other centres in New Zealand. Please contact the Society if you wish to hold a meeting in your area.
The last meeting for 2008 is as below, please either revisit this page for changes or contact the Society for details of 2009 preliminary programme.
Saturday 6th December - Christmas Meeting, mangere Mountain. Meet at 10.45am at the wall Memorial Hall, Domain Road, Mangere Bridge. From there we will drive and walk in the area. 11.00am Soccer Club car park, talk by Mangere Mountain Education Officer. 12.00 noon Picnic Lunch. 1.00pm drive to St James Church for a guided tour of the Maori Fencible Church by Rev Les Dixon.

The Fencible Bugle. Six bi-monthly magazines are issued to members, which contain Fencible related articles, details of meetings and new members interests.

| BOOK FOR SALE |

 The Royal New Zealand Fencibles 1847-1852. Published in 1997 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Fencibles to New Zealand. The book is comprised of two sections. Part one records the events that gave rise to the Fencibles formation, the terms and establishment of the corps and the history and development of the Fencible villages: Part two contains brief biographies in essay form of the Fencible men and their families. Included in the book are a large number of photographs, documents, maps and pictures. It is A4 in size, 256 pages, soft cover at a cost of $30 including p&p within NZ. Overseas prices on application. The book can be obtained from the Society's address.

Howick Historical Village - The award winning Howick Historical Village is a living museum presenting life in a Fencible Village during the early settlement of Europeans in Auckland. It was opened in 1980 by the Governor General , Sir Keith Holyoake. The village contains over 30 buildings brought together mainly from the fencible settlements of Auckland and lovingly restored by the Howick and Districts Historical Society members. www.fencible.org.nz
